Beyond Borders Scholarships Germany is seeking Ph.D. students from around the world who are studying bordering and bordering phenomena in various countries to apply for its Scholarship program.
Beyond Borders promotes research on borders and boundaries in both contemporary and historical contexts. It facilitates communication between disciplines across social sciences and humanities.
BEYOND BORDERS is a research foundation that promotes studies of borders and boundaries throughout history and contemporary times, encouraging interdisciplinary exchange within social science disciplines and humanities fields. Their Call to Applications for 2023 will remain open until March 1, 2023 and focus on “Borders, Contestation and Conflict”.
Boundaries are an integral part of daily life. Social, political, virtual and intellectual borders are a topic of intense discussion in both international contexts about security issues such as immigration trade and global education, as well as within nations that struggle to cope with increasing diversity and shifting concepts of national identity and culture. Geographic boundaries define the extent and depth of territorial structure, while informal social and symbolic lines specify norms and values regarding cultural, social, and religious activities. Every type of border can be considered a social construct. They could originate from historical or cultural circumstances, be the result of agreements between nations or parties, or be the outcome of public discussions about contentious matters. In our increasingly globalized world, where people’s mobility and the constant flow of objects, goods, ideas, and concepts are part of everyday life, border-making and crossing has become more significant than ever before. Borders serve as markers of political, social, and economic shifts that shape how we live our lives.
