OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship 2024-2025 | USA

OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship (IFP) The Indigenous Fellowship Program is an expansive human rights education initiative initiated by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights during 1995-04’s International Decade of World’s Indigenous Peoples (1995-204) as part of an ambitious global human rights education effort.

This program helps strengthen the capacities and skills of representatives from indigenous groups regarding UN mechanisms and systems that deal with human rights in general and indigenous issues specifically, so they will be better placed to defend and protect those rights for their communities on an international scale. Since 1997 when this initiative began, more than 300 indigenous community representatives worldwide have attended training, providing human rights education to many other people within their localities.

OHCHR invites applications from qualified Indigenous candidates who meet its eligibility requirements for its Indigenous Fellowship Program 2024. This opportunity gives Indigenous people an opportunity to acquire knowledge on working within the UN system.

Participants trained under this program will be better equipped to support both organizations and communities by protecting and safeguarding rights. Training is provided in five different languages. In tandem training, fellows participate actively.

OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program’s primary objective is to empower Indigenous Peoples by giving them an understanding of the UN structures and mechanisms, with special attention paid to Indigenous-specific rights issues. Following completion, course participants will possess the tools necessary for advocating on their organization’s or communities’ behalf for these rights in an efficient and impactful way. It’s scheduled for a four-week duration this coming summer (2024), taking place across five languages such as English, Spanish, French Russian Portuguese.
